Not sure that chasing status has value for many people but what is this 'limited flying' you are talking about? If you can't pick up 25K MQM's a year through flying and/or cc, you reset to zero each year. IOW if your flying is really limited, you won't have to worry about chasing status because you won't hit even the lowest level.
But sometimes that is not bad. In some cases it is less expensive to pay for certain perks like EC or SC access because it costs less than chasing status. YMMV but something to consider before you begin throwing away money.
