No, they would arrest him and charge him with a crime. There was a case a few years ago of a twin who couldn't find her license so she used her identical twin's license to try to get through security. She was arrested. TSA doesn't just laugh those things off. He would probably be given a summons to appear at a hearing, rather than be handcuffed like on a TV show, but that is considered an arrest.
Even if TSA lets him through security, there is a very real chance DL will stop him from flying. Even if you are willing to lose your SM account for good, and even possibly be permanently banned from flying DL, are you wiling to have your dad standing at the airport being told the only way to fly is to purchase a walk-up fare at ten times the price of his original ticket? That, of course, will likely have to be on another airline. Airlines don't take kindly to letting people on planes after catching them trying to do such things. It's not a good safety practice. And that's assuming he doesn't wind up on the TSA Do Not Fly list, let alone you. Yes, it's unlikely that would happen, but why even take that chance?
It would be a really, really bad idea to try this just to get a few measly frequent flier points. It sounds as if your friend at work isn't a frequent flier and doesn't understand how the airline provides the passenger list to TSA, the information collected by the airline and passed on to TSA or how the airline handles frequent flier accounts. Again, this would be a very, very bad idea.
What crime is he committing? The ticket will be in his name with his DOB but someone else's FF number. The example above is not relevant at all to this discussion. She fraudulently used another individual's government issued ID. That is a crime regardless of the situation.
