The only time I've had a case ruined completely was on a BA flight to IAD. It hardly held together so went straight to the "desk" where the very nice lady said "You can either fill in this form and we will replace it for you or you can choose from our selection here" pointing to a doorway behind her. I took the form but am still wondering where the "selection" came from
