Mandraskim's posts - brilliant - I can understand where your fondness for the regulars has come from! As a novice to these boards I've noticed the absence of any bad tones on the AY forum and I've learnt a huge amount about an airline that I'd previously known little. Your TR has added to that knowledge, so thanks again.
Like you, we scored a great J class fare with AY. This is the first time in many years that we've not flown from Australia to Europe via LHR on QF/BA, but the price difference in J has become considerable and we prefer to transit in SE Asia rather than DXB, so the time for change has come! Along with our flights with AY, we are also really looking forward to the "bounce" home with CX and spending our 5 hour transit in the first class lounge at The Wing. A nice way to finish our 8 week holiday - hooray for long service leave!
I'm thinking of writing a TR when we return - I know how helpful I found yours and others, so it would be good to contribute back. In the meantime, I will be spending my time flying around the country on QF domestic, anticipating

Ahhh, this last trip of mine was on long service leave as well

I wish I'd taken eight instead of six, but I've still got lots of it left (I went from full time to part time at work last year, so I've got heaps of it left).
It's nice to meet yet another Australian member of the Finland Appreciation Society!
You owe a trip report. The best thing I did was write dot points on my smartphone, I have the memory of an elderly goldfish if I don't keep notes, and there are just so many funny things that happen it's a shame to lose track of them.
Enjoy your trip, it sounds great. And enjoy your bounces around Oz on QF domestic, it's great - QF International should take some lessons from them.
