On an award ticket, you will have to re-deposit the miles to reissue the ticket in a different name. If your dad has Platinum status or above, the ticket can be redeposited with no fee. If Gold or below (or non-elite) there will be a service charge to redeposit the miles.

Also note, when you reissue the ticket -- the award has to be available for redemption.

For a revenue ticket, the only way it will be refundable is if you purchase a refundable fare.
