In some respects it's overly accurate. I takes a live feed from the system used to manage parts of the operation but in an example like this it shows a delay but in the background operations are switching aircraft. The timings appear to jump about, but this is actually reflecting new data, ie aircraft x would generate a rotational issue and depart at 17:50 but aircraft y will be available to depart at 17:13. That's a potted example but basically that's how it works.
I think BA are leaving themselves open to claims for missed departures. If the app tells me there is a 2 hour delay I can fully accept some people would just go and sit in the bar and not look at the airport screens until maybe 90 minutes had passed.
