You are right - weather delays aren't subject to compensation. Did you think to simply go home and get a full refund and not travel? I assume it was your choice to carry on and take what was left of your trip. But from a value perspective - you had your flights, and accommodation. Do you think there is some negligance here which should be compensated?

To ask another way - what would be your ideal solution now you are home?
Accommodation would have been provided under a flight only booking as per BA's duty of care, which applies of course regardless of the reason (ie volcano).

1 night accom in Istanbul should be refunded as a minimum in my view.
