Just another green tax. Whoever brings it in can make me pay, but they can't make me like them. Or vote for them.

Oh, and I'm sending this from the Sofitel T5, with my car in the Sofitel car park after a pleasant journey that took 75 minutes rather than at least three hours and much discomfort by public transport.
Yes, because that really describes the average Heathrow passenger... I can't tell you how difficult it is to move around the terminal trying to dodge the millions of pushchairs everywhere...

As to the other people whinging, yes if you aren't going towards Central London then the direct options aren't that great. But despite acting like changing trains would require a herculean level of ability, it is perfectly simple. Millions of people manage transiting on multiple trains and buses. Of course a direct car journey is more convenient (hence taxes being used to discourage car use), but public transport is perfectly feasible for the majority. If you're so put out by it then just pay the fiver.

I am committed to public transport options where they exist, and have chosen to live a short walk from a train station for that reason, but I would need to connect on two trains and one bus to get to Heathrow.
I live 70 miles south-east of Heathrow and can get there by train with ease (though National Express is a bit easier). You clearly are not "committed" to public transport if you can't bear those connections to get to Heathrow. In fact, I've taken public transport from here to Stansted numerous times with no major dramas as well.
