I've used the empower ports before, as recently as 2012 on ORD-FRA on a 777 with old business class. I actually didn't mind the barcaloungers, but that's a different thread. I had (well, still have) one of those giant power converters (inverters?) with a convertible auto/empower tip and two 3 prong outlets
