My parents never had the means to travel that way, and even if they did, they wouldn't have put us kids in a premium cabin.

I just think about some 8 year old flying that way and expecting that for the rest of his life. I wouldn't do it with my kid.
I'm not sure why premium air travel is singled out as special. What if you have an £85k car and a £4m house? Do you not allow your child in your car, or to live in your house, just in case they get ideas above their station?

If you are well-off, it is inevitable that your kids are going experience things that (1) you did not experience as a kid yourself, (2) they may not be able to experience themselves, when they become an adult, until they have spent a good few years in the working world.

Surely, it is just about teaching them about the realities of the world, and to be grateful and generous?
