So the Search by Schedule is then restricted only to when there is award space? I know I saw plenty of other routes which had a header of "no availability" if there was no available space on that route.

I am not sure I understand your question. If there is availability on the non-stop, it will show the non-stop at the top of the list. Otherwise, it will show other connecting options, on DL metal or other carriers. If no availability at all, it will say no availability.
