We've collected a few (36,000) points but have never used any. We were hoping to use them to upgrade to suites during our 13 night trip to China (Hyatt on the Bund, Shanghai and Grand Hyatt Beijing) next year. We thought we had plenty of points to do that, but have just found out about the rule change to a per-night basis and are now woefully short - can't even manage to upgrade to club rooms for the whole trip.

I know I'm asking for opinion rather than fact, but would the best route be to buy a few extra points and go with club? Buy a lot of extra points and go with a suite? We don't know either of these hotels so its hard for us to assess the value.

A couple of factual questions too. If we go with club rooms can we still take breakfast in the main restaurant or just in the club lounge? And finally - do I phone up to book an upgrade? I tried doing a dummy booking on the Hyatt web page but couldn't see anything about using points.

I'm asking a lot I know, but I'd appreciate any input.
