This was singularly THE worst hotel experience in my life.
Interestingly, I just stayed at another CS in Houston - the one near the Galleria - last week. I thought it was fine. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and professional, the queen bed in the room was quite comfortable, and everything was fine. Yes, the facility looked a bit like an old age home and was rather sterile, but I was a bit wary going in (was my first experience with the chain) and I was quite satisfied overall.
I'd definitely submit a formal complaint about your experience - such treatment is unacceptable.
