The above setup was different than when I visited last august, or maybe I am confusing with Myanmar, LOL!
On my last entry 2+ weeks ago the counters were in the main immi hall immediately forward as you enter it and everything in the same position as it has been for 10 years.
A bit nitpicky but what you describe is in the main immy hall which is separate from the ante-room containing the escalators (and stairs) and there are two which come down toward each other. One from gate 8 and the other from 5,6, and 7.
