As you said interior material is especially cheap. On mine, the velcro patches look pretty poorly sewed too and I wouldn't be surprised if they pull off at some point. I'm probably going to return it (haven't used it, just inspected) since the quality seems subpar for the price, especially since they raised the price from $160 of the previous MLC to $180.

Now I'm consider ordering a GR2 and seeing how that carries, since still looking for a relatively minimal wheel-less carry-on, but I'm not a big fan of the tactical look (granted it's certainly less than other brands). I also keep looking at Tom Bihn's offering, but I'm not a huge fan of all the extra pockets and pouches to snap in. The GR2 appeals my more one-bag versatile minimalist side, but I'm not sure how it'll work out in practice. Choices...
Funny you should mention the GR2. That is what i'm using on my current trip. From a build quality standpoint, the GR2 is miles ahead of the MLC. However the MLC a bit wider, so it packs flatter. I find the GR2's main compartment will hold a bundle well, but that leaves less space around the periphery... meaning you end up packing more in the front compartment...making everything a bit thicker. My wife tells me the GR2 makes me look like I'm going camping.
