The design itself seems better than the previous iteration (easier to pack main compartment, no hard-to-get-to admin pocket, now includes an external ID card, laptop compartment is smaller and more padded on sides), but the materials and finish seem worse. As you said interior material is especially cheap. On mine, the velcro patches look pretty poorly sewed too and I wouldn't be surprised if they pull off at some point. I'm probably going to return it (haven't used it, just inspected) since the quality seems subpar for the price, especially since they raised the price from $160 of the previous MLC to $180.

Now I'm consider ordering a GR2 and seeing how that carries, since still looking for a relatively minimal wheel-less carry-on, but I'm not a big fan of the tactical look (granted it's certainly less than other brands). I also keep looking at Tom Bihn's offering, but I'm not a huge fan of all the extra pockets and pouches to snap in. The GR2 appeals my more one-bag versatile minimalist side, but I'm not sure how it'll work out in practice. Choices...
