This statement has appeared in American Express terms for about a year. A very few people have reported bonus denials due to holding another, unrelated, American Express card. Most have continued to receive bonuses for which they otherwise qualify. The terms are carefully worded "may" to allow American Express to withhold a bonus if they choose, but there is no way to know without trying.
