Shanghai versus Taipei in early September?
As part of an around-the-world trip, my wife and I have a choice between a couple of days in Taipei or Shanghai in early September. One salient consideration is the weather in Taipei. I realize that isn't an ideal time for Shanghai either, but I'm wondering about the chances that we'll run into lots of rain in Taipei - not to mention the small chance of a typhoon that time of year. If we get lousy weather in Shanghai, we'd at least be staying in a fun, nice hotel (Park Hyatt) there. With Taipei, we'd be with pleasant acquaintances who I'm sure are in at least decent housing, as he is a very senior academic researcher recruited from the USA.
For what it's worth, we also have the option of passing through Taipei for about 12 hours, seeing those acquaintances there, and going on to Shanghai.
I realize there is no absolutely right answer. And I realize these are both fascinating cities that are each worth more than a couple of days. But the rest of our schedule is already locked in. So particularly in view of the weather factor I'd welcome any thoughts on whether stopping off in Taipei at all, for 12 hours or for a couple of days (and skipping Shanghai) makes the most sense to folks here.
Thanks for any advice!
