In principle, I don't have any problem giving this kind of information to the airline in cooperation with an appropriate government authority, as long as what information is required is clear, and I only have to give the information once.
As TRAVELSIG alludes in his experience, If I start to get grilled multiple times by various people in the service chain asking for the same information, then I will get quickly irritated.
There are a few notable countries where the security folks like to ask you the same questions multiple times (mostly to make sure you give the same answer, and maybe sometimes to harass you a bit to see how you react). That is a bit irritating, but I can live with it as part of the price of moving relatively freely through a crowded world where powerful and destructive technologies have become ubiquitous.
However, trained security professionals are one thing, lounge dragons are another. I suspect it is rare that one person holds both those positions.
