It's just my personal opinion but I think this is just BA closing cheaper fare buckets well in advance of what they assume will be a busy period.
The "book-way-in-advance" method does not normally work for holiday periods. BA and other airlines know the demand will be high and therefore are loathed to sell discounted seats unless they notice that demand for a particular day is lower than anticipated.
