Gotcha now. You will be fine since the SNA-YYZ is on a seperate ticket. Assuming you've solved the luggage issue by going all carry-on, the biggest risks you'll run into are if you book LAX-SFO and you're delayed in AUS getting to LAX, DL has no obligation to honor the LAX-SFO ticket since it's independent of your AUS-LAX-SAN ticket, AND you need to ensure your LAX-SFO flight doesn't conflict with your LAX-SAN flight or the system may cancel one or both tickets. The other risk is if the AUS-LAX flight ends up being canceled (such as for maintenance), you may end up being re-routed via SLC with a final destination of SAN.
