Actually, I used to be a buyer in maintenance area for these very planes when I was working for AF and to me they were fine (Except it was more than 10 years ago!).
I have two questions:
- Would you recommend the first row for a family of 4 (me, 2 quiet kids who know how to behave and my wife who doesn't always)? It's all free right now and I still can pick it up.
- Is the proximity of the galley bothersome?
Thanks and once again, keep posting you're a gifted reporter!
Welcome to Flyertalk - I'm flattered that your first post was in response to my report, and I thank you for your kind words.

I liked the feeling of privacy being in the first row. Being four of you, you would take up the entire row so this might be a bonus for you. There is no window on the A side of the first row which you may want to consider.

The galley didn't bother me at all.

Keep in mind, my cabin was two-thirds empty so there wasn't a lot of movement going on from the passengers.

I would sit in these seats again, and wouldn't have a problem flying in the ex-AF 340s - it was certainly a better aircraft that the tatty Qantas A330 that I flew later on this trip.
