With an item like a chronometer, provenance is more important than price. The world is awash with convincing fake watches which appear great value but are vastly over-priced for what they are.
Only consider buying it from a franchised dealer, preferably one near where you live with whom you (or your lucky husband) can establish a relationship. The benefits of this became clear with my last Omega which had a faulty movement (yes, it happens with good brands). The local dealer who supplied it looked after me well and eventually persuaded Omega to replace it with a new one. There's the added benefit of supporting a local trader and their staff. As said above, dealers will discuss a discount to get your business so it shouldn't cost more than at an airport.
Watches are very personal items and inspire strong likes/dislikes. As it happens mine is a Seamaster and I absolutely love it.
