I don't think I've ever tried a Pompadour croissant - or if I did I don't remember it - so I can't comment on whether it's "top notch" but most mid-tier Japanese hotel breakfast buffets would be greatly improved if they offered even a half-decent depa-chika croissant.
Hotel breakfast buffet croissants are a hit and miss in Japan, whether it's 3-star or 4-star hotels... which is saying something because, in the US, it's a complete miss every time at any hotel. The best hotel buffet croissant might've been at an ANA Crowne Plaza. You should try Pompadour's croissant next time. It's not the best I've had in Japan, but I think theirs might be the best out of all the chains (better than Donq, better than Vie de France).

Japan does croissants pretty damn well. Okay, they're not quite on par with France and Geneve, but Japanese know how to do croissants. You can get better croissants in most depachika's than the best one you can get in Boston. Sorry to go off topic.
