In our recent PB stay in HIX Baden Baden, we were charged EUR 3.5 per person per night 'city tax' and I didn't realise about this until we checked in. The FD trying so hard to sell the card saying things like you get discounts for all the 'attractions' in the city. The amount is not small especially if you are staying for more nights.
