I do that flight monthly with a connection to CVG. You should have no problems making your ATL flight. I normally go through security at Terminal 2 no matter which terminal I am departing from. I have found the lines for security to be a little smaller at T2 than T1, but of course that is in the morning so if you are on the afternoon flight it might be different.
