How do you define an "additional" hour?

US Customs can be a bit of a crap-shoot. Some days it is fast and other times it seems to take forever. Same thing for the security line after customs. As long as you are at the airport say 90 minutes before departure you should be fine.

Invest in NEXUS/Global Entry and you can breeze through very quickly.
