Congrats on the upcoming wedding - we honeymooned in Kauai and I can appreciate your attention to details. I vote for LAX layover - it may only be 4 hours delay but you lost time in the sun (to me, that is like losing a whole day) and depending where you are going, would possibly be rushing to catch the sunset your first day.
