So after using my iPad during take-off and landing for over 40 flight segments as according with the new rules (Q4 2013), I was told today that it was actually not allowed.
The most official announcement I can find is on the Star Allicance site (
http://www.star-alliance.ch/index.php?page=924) which says they "let customers keep their PED (portable electronic devices) on during the whole flight, including start and landing".
Admittedly, it doesnt actually say you may
use them.
The flight attendant today insisted that it was purely for convenience of not having to wait for devices to boot up after the seatbelt sign as been turned off, and that you absoultely are not allowed to use them during take-off and landing.
As I said, ive never had any problem - I have spent many flights happily watching videos or doing work on my iPad throughout the flight with no problem. The only thing is that they sometimes ask you to pay attention to the safety demonstration at the start of the flight. I think that is fair enough.
But I have never encountered this since the new rules at the end of last year...
Any other experiences with this? And does anyone know where the actual rule is defined? This is another great example of mis-communication and inconsistency within the SAS network!
