What do you want from a frequent flyer program? It sounds like status benefits such as lounge access, checkin etc are not that important if you mainly fly in premium cabins and receive this anyway.
QF has a very poor earn/burn rate, AA is much better. You don't need to fly in the US or ever fly AA to benefit from joining and crediting flights to the AA program.

Yes with QF you will get a soft landing.
