Report from my recent 2 night stay:

Arrived wee-hours of the morning thanks to delayed flight. No issues at check-in, and certainly no lines. Shown a list of Gold amenities, but the agent suggested using it for free wifi, which I did. Can't remember the other choices. Also received two welcome drink chits for the club, and two passes for (unlimited?) tea / coffee in the restaurant all day. (didn't use those)

Booked two rooms at 3K / night (weekend rate). Upgraded to a Jr. Suite with connecting room, which was perfect. Rooms were on Club floor with club access. Fruit plate in the room -- maybe a second amenity? Not sure.

Offered buffet breakfast in the restaurant. It was packed both mornings. So busy I couldn't find a seat and took my plate back to my room, which was fine, since the kids were sleeping late. Buffet is quite extensive, but frankly not that great. Everyone will find something they will theoretically like, but whether it is good is another matter! For example, the eggs were mostly soup. The deep fried pork was very dry. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciated the variety, but last month I was in Stockholm and had breakfast at the Radisson Waterfront buffet which is probably one of the best hotel breakfast buffets in the world (caviar!) This ain't that.

The club sets up for evening apps around 3pm or so. (officially starts at 4). They had 3 hot items each day, one rotated. Then they have some cheese, cold meats, desserts, etc. Again, nothing fancy, but everything was adequate. The oddity is that they charge for most drinks, including soft drinks! They have two juices out (including prickly pear -- tuna -- so good) and a bottle of wine, but anything else required either the welcome drink chit or, presumably, billing it to your room. It just surprised me to have to pay or use a chit to get a Coke!

The hotel is next to a lively well-kept mall with a nice food court. But otherwise, it is an 'interesting' area. A large park of statues is across the street, and the palace of justice is beyond that. But then there is a lot of who-knows-what beyond that. We were only there on the weekend, so it's hard to say what would have been open -- I'm guessing not much -- and the view of the these buildings rooftops from our room wasn't the most picturesque.

But the area is reasonably walkable. We walked to the historic area downtown. Plenty of people out and about. No issues. Didn't feel unsafe at all. We were not out at night, but I would have no worries about going over to the mall.

The Sheraton has a shuttle (contracted) to Miraflores. Runs afternoon/evening leaving every other hour. Shuttle seats about 9. If there are a lot of folks who want to go, this could be an issue. It takes about 25-30 mins to get to Larcomar, a shopping mall built into a cliff at Miraflores. The driver didn't run the AC in the shuttle, so it got a little warm.

There is a pool and spa at the hotel. We used the pool. It was COLD.

The Jr. Suite is nice. Living room with table / chairs and couch (not pull out). King size bed in bedroom, with heavy sliding door to separate. Bathroom contains a shower and jetted-tub.

I was originally offered a 4pm check out. On the day of departure, I asked for a late check out -- I asked for 7pm and that was granted without hesitation. Hotel seemed deserted when we left. Seemed odd that it was very busy on the weekend, and then empty coming into the week, particularly for what I assume is not so much a leisure property.

We used Peruvian Shuttle for our airport transfers. I highly recommend them. Price is only somewhat more than a taxi, and cheaper than the hotel. They are prompt, drive nice cars, and never tried to sell us anything. Pay in USD or soles, no surcharge. Took maybe 20-30 mins to the airport.

Overall, the Sheraton met and mostly exceeded my expectations. I would definitely go back. It is a great value on an award stay. It was probably the best treatment I've ever received as an SPG Gold.
