My own experience in traveling places world wide is that light weight is more important than heavy fast lenses, so I love my light weight plastic kit lenses like the 18-55 when I'm traveling.
If you stick with the 20D, I agree, go with the 10-22, 17-55 and a 70-200. In regards to light weight, I agree to an extent, but I would go with a 17-55 over 18-55 any day.. PQ and fixed Aperture alone is worth the weight..
