ultrawide angle like EF-S 10-22 or equivalent full frame is a must have IMHO. If you're rome only, you won't find much need for long lenses.

My own experience in traveling places world wide is that light weight is more important than heavy fast lenses, so I love my light weight plastic kit lenses like the 18-55 when I'm traveling.
