AUH preclearance is not good
Yesterday we flew from AUH to ORD. Our experience was similar to that described by TrAAveller in post #23. The Global Entry kiosks were still not working, but were told they should be up and running in 2 weeks.
The people in the Business Class lounge told us they do not make the announcement to leave the lounge until they have been notified that the vast majority of economy passengers have been processed by US Customs & Border Protection. This reduces the wait time at US Customs and Border. Unfortunately, this means arriving at the departure gate after economy passenger boarding has started. We had a long wait standing on the jetway, which was not air conditioned. Overall, it was not a good experience.
Etihad needs to provide premium passengers with Fast Track for the entire process. US Customs & Border Protection needs to provide Global Entry. Until both of these are done, it is best to avoid flying to the U.S. from AUH.
