You can makes them as separate bookings, select your own seats and call up to ask for the bookings to be "TCP"''d (Total Complete Party ?), and for your wife to be given the seat next to you on the flights that you are taking in common. The request gets sent off to seating control who should action it within 24 hours. Its a pretty routine exercise.
