You've deferred the trip back by a year JUST BECAUSE you can't get a business class seat. Sounds like this trip really IS optional.
You better use the next 11 months to go raise enough cash for a revenue ticket, that way you can GUARANTEE yourself a J seat, and no more fretting about waitlists, award issuing deadlines etc.
