A lot of UA FA were not happy with AFA in the past had no choice but vote for AFA as to protect their bidding seniority.
There are pro and con from both side contracts. However, I have enjoyed the longer layover at sUA contract as it provided adequate rest time. I am not a fan of those Hawaii turns that we have on the sUA contract.
The briefing for sUA are different between domestic and international. on wide body, international is 1 hr 45 mins before departure and 1:15 for domestic. narrow body is 1:15 for international and 1 hr for domestic. with the exception of the 757 recently change after the merger.
I just talk to a friend of mine who tok the CROSS OVER. she had been with UA based in SFO for 7 yrs and now has to start fresh. she had been flying all over the world that UA fly in SFO and now told that she can no longer fly international as she is not CONTINENTAL international qualify. I understand that Continental has separate base for domestic and international, but telling a United FA that they are not international service qualify is a not really a good was to communicate. For UA to use sCO FA from IAH to fly international out of SFO when they have the resource here is not a very productive way to make money for sure.
The reason they use sCO FAs out of IAH to fly the SFO - KIX route when it's the 787 is because of not having an international FA base in SFO. Same with DEN - NRT the flight is staffed with Houston based international FAs as no international base in DEN. Before we opened up an international base in DC, FAs were either deadheading in from Houston or Newark to work the IAD - Europe or trips were 6 days out of Newark flying something along the lines of EWR - LHR - IAD - MAN - EWR. Now I'm all about being fair with seniority and stuff, but I don't think a sUA FA hired after me should be above me, nor should I expect to be above a sUA FA who was hired before me. Just another thing I wanted to say domestic sCO F/As can work international trips I've had domestic F/As on flights with me (internationally based Newark) FA have worked domestic trips with domestic F/As. Btw (with the exception of EWR/IAD/IAH - HNL) we have west coast - Hawaii - west coast turns too.
