SAL is not a very nice, modern airport, but it is by far the easiest place to make a connecting flight in Central America. It even beats PTY, as PTY is large and crowded, although both airports allow international connections without clearing immigration and customs.
I flew through BOG today, flying in from SJO, connecting to a nacionál (domestic) Colombian flight, so I had to clear Immigration, but I noticed that they have a separate hallway for international connections. They have probably always had this, but I've never used it for an international connection, so I just hadn't noticed. What happens there, I can't say, but it was away from the Immigration lines, so it may be easy, too.
OT - I'm also quite curious about flying through BOG to MDE with something that has taxes due. Since I didn't have to fill out a customs form to make my domestic connection, and my domestic flight came in to the domestic arrivals at MDE, I'm wondering what would have happened if I were trying to bring in a new iMac. That's something I'm planning to bring from the USA soon, so it may be worth it to me to fly through BOG, or am I kidding myself?
