If lie-flat seats are your only option then flying to JFK then taking Amtrak to Providence might be your best option. Just note that you have to get from JFK to Penn Station. Take a look at SFO-EWR since United sometimes uses B757-200s with int’l lie-flat seats on this route. If there’s a flight with lie-flat seats to Newark then I recommend this option since you can just take Amtrak from the EWR Airport station. If you go with the SFO-JFK option, you have a choice between Delta, American, United, and Jetblue.
I'm not familiar with UA's product on this route, but is it really better than AA's new lie flat F and J seats on the SFO-JFK route? Also, not sure why the connection from EWR to NY Penn Station is any easier than the connection from JFK to NY Penn Station. I personally prefer JFK over EWR.
