Trying to redeem aeroplan points for a flight from Ottawa (YOW) to Bangkok (BKK). The best I can find right now is 75,000 aeroplan points + $687.
Four of the 6 flights are on United to reduce the fuel surcharge. The remaining 2 Thai flights come with a $447 fuel surcharge + taxes.
Is that acceptable?

I snagged 3 tickets for June of next year - all in J class:
YHZ-YYZ (AC)
YYZ-TPE (BR)
TPE-HKG (BR) - stopover
HKG-BKK (TG) - stopover
BKK-TPE (TG)
TPE-YYZ (BR)
YYZ-YHZ (AC)
125K AE points each. Total 'taxes' of $381 per ticket!
It obviously depends on when you are traveling but you could definitely do better, depending on your flexibility. Acceptable is a matter of perspective.
