I finally got the same email and was able to reverse engineer the clickpath to the link they had in the email.
All of this can be accessed from the home page by clicking the "Book a Trip" menu, then "Redeem flights", then pick "Upgrade Award" from the redemption type list. I think it used to be that you had to pick "Flight Award" and search for available dates/flights.
Now when you pick upgrade award, it shows you a list of your booked segments and you can tick a box to upgrade the upgradeable segments. For the most part I like this better than the old way. There is one problem though.... the email said this:
Our new system enhancement makes it easier and more convenient to plan your trip by giving you
- real-time availability and flight status of upgrade segments – showing whether your flight is confirmed, waitlisted or not available for waitlisting.
- alternative flight options on the same day if your upgrade segments cannot be confirmed.
I don't see any way to get that second item, alternative flight options on the same day if my upgrade segments cannot be confirmed. I have one segment waitlisted for an upgrade, so I should be able to find alternative flights on the same day to potentially upgrade, right? It's LAX-HKG so there should be several flights to choose from.
Otherwise this feature is an upgrade from the previous method. It will save you a few clicks and a possibly a few phone calls to MPO/AM to put in your upgrade requests. And you can still see all the previous data (list of same-day flights with their award space status) by looking at the Flight Award options instead. Nice job CX, thanks!
