It's best to pay off the 10K before the statement closes, otherwise your credit utilization will be too high and it might adversely affect your credit score. They say its best to have a small balance on your statement-- and since you should be getting a $450 refund, you might want to pay $9000 and the rest after the statement closes.
I really appreciate you talking the time to reply! I've never closed an account before or carried a balance on a cc. If I pay 9k and leave a small balance before the statement is generated and get a bill for let's say 1000.00, get my miles, do I then immediately sm to close? How will I know how much to mail them the final payment, I.e. will they deduct the 450 and email me how much I owe? Can you have a balance on a cc that is closed?

Thanks!
