Thanks for the advice all...I will have trip insurance, so should something go wrong I'll be protected. I do have some padding in my schedule (this is the start of a month long trip) so I can always play catch-up.
It'll be two tickets, but I understand Air North and Qantas partner, so maybe that will help? I think I'm going to take the chance, knowing that DRW won't likely be the bottleneck.
