A few caveats:
1. Spend points are definitely banked from past spending. I have transferred this card from a many years ago Chairman's card, to Premier and now to Prestige and my spendpoints have followed me along every step of the way. I was told that if your flightpoints exceed your banked spendpoints, they will hold (or basically bank) the FP until you have reached the matching SP's. so it's basically the opposite of what
thomasmessi described - they encourage you to spend first.
For flight points for multiple tickets to automatically post, the airline has to charge each ticket separately. If all tickets post as only one charge, you will only automatically get flight points for one ticket, and you will have to write in and request that they manually post the other flight points. (As an example, AA always does separate charges, but WN usually only does one charge.)
2. I have never had the issue of multiple tickets on the same PNR not getting the correct credit but I mostly book UA. I generally prefer to purchase my tickets together on the same reservation and rarely have the flightpoints from both not been accumulated and recorded separately.
There will be some times that individual legs are missing but I think that's anecdotal and not due to an booking technique as my procedure doesn't change much.
That said, I just purchased 2 RT tickets to Europe and I see, that even though they were purchased as 1 combined charge, they are listed on my statement as 2 separate UA ticket # charges. I have never seen that happen before.
3. Lastly, I have seen that, consistently, FP fail to automatically post when the tickets are purchased by an online booking agent.......even when it's the TY network or Spirit Incentives (15% off) own booking agent which is basically Citi (and I am not referring to point redemption tix).
With all these caveats, I have never had a problem getting Citi CS to correct missing FP credits by faxing the receipt and the statement directly to an agent. They even retrieve my fax while I wait on the phone so I know it is being attended to.
It may be a pain but it just takes a little oversight and bookkeeping. Having all these accounts stored electronically these days make it even easier to retrieve past info.
