No hard and fast rule, but 1.4 seemed surprisingly decent. I had assumed that the value for car rentals would be terrible (like gift cards, toasters, etc.) but it doesn't seem to be that horrible of a deal after all. I never seem to be able to use points for flights thanks to lack of advance planning, lack of flexibility, etc. so it's nice to have other options.
