There are many threads on the value of avios points, somewhere around 0.7p to 1p each is commonly used. Using for longhaul economy you may get under 0.2p/avios, using to upgrade from premium economy to business you may see 2-5p/avios.

Flying in premium cabins will earn status much faster due to the TP earn as per the table in the Attaining Status thread I linked in my previous post.
Flying from the European mainland (often referred to as ex-EU here) often provides much cheaper business class fares, although with the hassle of needing to fly there first. However, there is often very little saving if flying in economy or premium economy.
