My son works as a cashier in a small town Iowa Walmart. He was commenting on the new card reader system which requires a chipped card to be inserted and that it was causing some confusion.
I picked him up from work tonight and went in and made a purchase. The terminal said "Insert or Swipe Card" I swiped my British Airways Chase card and it said card must be inserted. The terminal is a poor design as the insert slot is not obvious and I had to search for it. I inserted the card, the screen flashed "Do Not Remove Card". Then stated Amount and Yes - No - Cancel. Pressed Yes, register spit out a receipt. No signature as it was a small amount. Time about the same as a swiped transaction. Maybe a shade quicker. Cashier said that this was the first one she had seen. I think it will take a while for John Q Public to get used to it.
