Just completed a 10 day trip through Spain & South of France. Had 2 EMV cards with me: the BofA TravelRewards Visa and the SDFCU Visa. Haven't encountered any place where BofA card would not work and the SDFCU would -- anywhere BofA failed so did the SDFCU card. The most notable place of failure was in the French Toll booths, I couldn't pay with a credit card at all. The most notable place of success was an unmanned pump in France where I was able to get more than €70 worth of gasoline without having to enter a PIN or sign anything (used the BofA card). I was surprised at being able to charge a reasonably large amount with no CVM (the temporary hold was in excess of $200), I was expecting having to resort to the SDFCU one and enter a PIN.
Had no trouble paying tolls in Spain.
