I just confirmed that you should be getting a checked bag free as a SPG Plat.
A number of issues come to mind due to your post.
1. DL is terrible about NOT responding to questions regarding their product. They tend to IGNORE anything that you've written and you get some boilerplate back. Very frustrating. It seems like their customer service department is filled with robots.
2. DL is terrible about NOT communicating correctly regarding their product and benefits of the marketing programs (SPG Crossover). I get free baggage allowance for a number of reasons, but I'm still told that when it will be the same $25 and $35 that you were told. Fact is, I've never been charged for checking bags. Ignore what you read when you bought your ticket.
3. Go into your profile at DL.com and make sure that your SPG relationship is documented. IF done correctly, it will be noted in your profile and will ultimately determine what your benefits are with regard to the SPG Crossover Rewards.
My assumption is that you will get the free allowance you believe that you should be getting, it has just not been communicated correctly.
