if it's 12 days, I would strongly recommend Intermediate.. it would be way way more comfortable..
if you are ok with being in a compact and the price difference is huge, then go for compact.. you might get lucky (chances are there.. hertz is pretty ok with one car class upgrade) and you might end up in an intermediate.. asking politely at the counter also helps..
but if the price difference is not much, book an intermediate.. I was booking a 9 day road trip car and the price difference between between compact and full size was less than $1.. so booked a full size..
use
PC 192021.. it might make the difference to your booking that you need for going from compact to intermediate/full size..
