If you read upthread many have reported that once the miles posted, their "expired" miles where reactivated. This is because of the purchase date, they may show up 25-30 days after, but are dated based on transaction date. If you are concerned on this, maybe try several purchases through different shopping venues. An Itune purchase, a Home Depot Gift card, or a gift card from any store you like. You can also redeem miles for a magazine subscription. That is the fastest and instant way to create activity in your account. Another suggestion is through car rentals, and crediting to your AA account. Many rentals will normally yield 50-100 miles per day.

50k is enough for a domestic/international roundtrip, you should do your best to extend its expiration clock. Have you thought on getting a Citi AA card?
